Fashion Senior Portraits

I had an opportunity to participate with a local MeetUp group named "Model and Fashion Photographers of South Jersey". The goal was to photograph the talent using a "Roaring 20s" theme. Therefore I took this opportunity to capture photos relevant to my indoor sessions for fashion senior portraits. With four different shooting bays, each with a different backdrop and lighting setup, this was going to be a creative time.

Working with the talented Melanie LeDoux was a pleasure. She is a Philadelphia area model. Also she is a dance instructor at Ovations Dance Studio right above the photography studio. Although Melanie LeDoux is a young and vibrant model, she can easily pass for a high school senior. The photos of Melanie are an example of the images that can be created during one of my fashion senior portraits sessions.

The Scenery

The scenery, an old train depot under a bridge in the early 1900s. In a 1920s style dress and hat, Melanie stood in front of the huge painted backdrop. The backdrop showcased a steam engine under a bridge while Melanie played the role of young beautiful woman standing near the train overpass. Consequently Melanie acted as if she were waiting for the train to arrive. Perhaps waiting for someone special like her husband or fiancé who is in the Armed Services, use your imagination.

While Melanie, very attractive and dressed the part, as a result it was not a stretch to believe the role. By not always engaging with the camera and shifting her glance elsewhere periodically, Melanie added a very believable quality to the photos. The photographs had an editorial touch or slightly voyeuristic feel. Exactly what I was going for, images that could be in a magazine like W or Vogue

A little secret about this scene, good thing I didn't capture the old steam engine in the backdrop.  The backdrop contained a broken down the steam engine therefore it might have looked like Melanie was waiting for a mechanic.

Anticipating the photographer's shot, she kept the poses fresh by varying after every exposure. Most of all, she made it very easy to shoot quickly and capture the photos with an authentic feel, Melanie is great to work with. In conclusion, special thanks to Melanie and the group for organizing the shoot together.
